Physician house calls are becoming more common and economically viable.
Caring for patients in their homes provides opportunities to better understand the patient and his or her disease in the context of his or her environment. These visits may uncover opportunities for home safety evaluations, family and financial counseling, and social work needs for adaptive devices and services. Careful observation of numerous old medications, spoiled food, or dark and cluttered living areas may be clues to frequent hospitalizations, medication compliance, and polypharmacy.

The initial home visit will generally require extra time to complete the medical history and physical examination, as well as further evaluation of the environment and social situation. This extensive visit can be tiring for some patients. The assessment can be divided into two visits, with the history and physical examination to be completed on the initial visit and a subsequent visit scheduled for further assessments of cognition, mood, social situation, functional status, and environment.

Enlisting family members or caregivers to provide additional history and patient information can be invaluable in understanding the patient's overall health.

In our clinic we dedicate some time to home visit for eligible patients. Please contact us to verify eligibility.
